PGR Recruitment Hub

The IGNITE Network+ Inclusive Energy Postgraduate Research Hub supports fairer, more inclusive pathways into postgraduate research across the UK energy sector. It brings together guidance, tools, and opportunities to help both prospective applicants and recruiters contribute to a more diverse research community.

What the Hub aims to do:

  • Widen access to PGR pathways for prospective researchers from underrepresented and marginalised* backgrounds, especially those exploring opportunities in the energy sector.
  • Provide inclusive, practical guidance that supports applicants to navigate the PGR process with confidence, from understanding what PGR study involves to finding opportunities.
  • Support fair and equitable recruitment, offering tools and resources that help departments, supervisors, and institutions strengthen inclusive practices.
  • Centralise information so all candidates and recruiters can access opportunities and support in one place.

* Who do we mean by “underrepresented”?

We use “underrepresented” to refer to groups who have historically been less visible in postgraduate research or who may experience structural barriers to progression. This includes, for example:

  • people from minoritised ethnic backgrounds
  • disabled students
  • those from lower socio‑economic backgrounds
  • LGBTQ+ applicants
  • women in energy research

These groups, among others, may face additional challenges in accessing PGR opportunities, and the Hub aims to help remove those barriers.
