Career Pipeline Diagram Image showing the energy career pipeline pathway and the network+ prescribed activities. A pipeline diagram with 6 different career stages and pathways of people taking Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects (the acronym STEM). The diagram shows blue arrows from each stage to the next, and grey arrows to represent routes to careers outside STEM / Energy Research, both academic and non-academic. There are a total of six career stages, under the first five there are influencers and systemic inequalities and internal pressures which can manifest at any time and they have a lasting influence over pathway, as follows: 1.	Secondary Education: Influencers are parents, peers, educators, role models Systematic inequalities and internal pressure include Perceptions of self, science capital and STEM confidence 2.	Undergraduate: Influencer is Faculty Systematic inequalities and internal pressure include access, stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination 3.	Postgraduate: Influencer is Supervisors Systematic inequalities and internal pressure include recruitment practices and unequal opportunities 4.	Early career Influencer are mentors, Support networks Systematic inequalities and internal pressure include biased policies and Job security 5.	Mid-career: Influencers are senior career sponsors Systematic inequalities and internal pressure include career breaks and biased metrics for promotion 6.	Senior career is the final career stage with routes out of STEM / Energy Shown in red along the top of the diagram are the seven IGNITE Network+ deliverables which we have called prescribed activities (PA1 - 7) which will identify and challenge systemic inequities at all stages of the career pipeline, as well as providing positive support mechanisms. Prescribed Activity 1 (PA1) – Collecting baselines data covers stages 2 -6 of the pipeline Prescribed Activity 2 (PA2) - Mapping out interventions covers stages 2 to 6 of the pipeline Prescribed Activity 3 (PA3) - Examining publications covers stages 4 to 6 of the pipeline Prescribed Activity 4 (PA4) – See yourself in Energy covers stages 1 to 3 of the pipeline Prescribed Activity 5 (PA5) – Mentoring and advocacy covers stages 4 and 5 of the pipeline Prescribed Activity 6 (PA6) – Examining bias in research metrics covers stages 4 and 5 of the pipeline Prescribed Activity 7 (PA7) – Supporting working-class researchers covers stages 3 to 6 of the pipeline

The IGNITE network+ has seven deliverables which we have called prescribed activities, each of these activities, shown above in red text (PA1 - 7), will identify and challenge systemic inequities at all stages of the career pipeline, as well as providing positive support mechanisms.

The network will also offer two flexible funding calls which are bottom-up initiatives arising from the research community, please read our detailed flexible funding page with more information.  These calls will be announced over the lifetime of the project, if you are interested, please join the network to keep informed.
