The digital transformation of the energy sector promises enhanced efficiency and customer engagement. However, without equitable design, it risks exacerbating existing social inequalities. This project, "Navigating EDI Complexity," investigated the critical gap between the commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles and their practical implementation in the energy sector's digital design processes. Through a novel mixed-methods approach—combining a survey of 112 energy sector professionals, advanced computational analysis of 61,755 user reviews of UK energy apps and focus groups (3 focus groups 34 participants) with community organisations in Luton—the research identified a pronounced organisational belief-action gap.
