IGNITE Network+ Flexible Funded (FA1) Project Summary Report - Unlocking the demand flexibility of heat pumps for providing electricity grid services

News | 04-09-2026

Dr Amir Abiri Jahromi (University of Leeds), Dr Jaise Kuriakose (University of Manchester), Dr Xueqin (Amy) Liu (Queen's University Belfast)

Funding FA1: Diverse PLs

This project developed strong partnerships, research evidence and novel methods to quantify domestic demand flexibility heat pumps can provide to electricity networks. The work was delivered through three university-led work packages, which combined demand forecasting, thermodynamic modelling & equity analysis as well as network-service allocation to support fair and scalable use of heat pump flexibility.

The project was funded under the flexible funding to create more diverse UKRI Project Leads/ Prinicipal Investigators.
