FA2: EDI Challenges, Round 2

This research aims to uncover and address the unique challenges faced by BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) students in Chemical and Engineering Sciences at two universities with distinct student demographics. By examining the intersection of racial, socioeconomic, and disciplinary barriers, the project seeks to identify and implement tailored support strategies to enhance engagement, academic success, and employability.

Through focus groups, interviews, and cross-institutional comparisons, the study will explore themes such as belonging, leadership dynamics, and group work experiences, while leveraging insights from diverse perspectives to develop practical interventions. These include for example curriculum enhancements and mentorship programs to bridge the gap between education and employment.
The project will foster a more inclusive culture by informing educational practices and enabling equitable access to resources for underrepresented communities, helping to dismantle stereotypes and support BAME students' success in STEM disciplines.
