There is a lack of diversity in energy research career pipelines and limited awareness of options among student applicants. Research Placements facilitated by SSERC are designed to inspire the next generation, by opening scientific research to young people between S5 and S6 / Year 12, through two weeks’ experience of life in a professional research centre. By building awareness of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, this initiative lets young people explore their options before applying to UCAS.

The scheme prioritises finding placements for students who would be first in their immediate family to attend university.
