Please briefly describe the main activities of the organisation
The UK Energy Research Centre carries out world-class, interdisciplinary research into sustainable future energy systems. Our whole systems research programme addresses the challenges and opportunities presented by the transition to a net zero energy system and economy. UKERC is funded by the UK Research and Innovation, Energy Programme.
Please briefly state the vision, mission and values of the organisation
Vision: to be the UK’s centre of excellence for creating and applying knowledge to inform the energy transition and build a low-carbon, sustainable future. Mission: enabling the UK research community to conduct independent, multidisciplinary research to inform net zero decision making. Exploring new questions, methods and agendas, and maximising impact through local, national, and international engagement.
Please provide examples of how the organisation promotes equality, diversity and inclusion
We promote EDI from high level governance to the delivery of EDI focused activities and events. We have an EDI committee with an associated plan and goals, and we work with our network in the delivery of these, to advance EDI in the energy space.
Please provide examples successful EDI activities and interventions
The inclusive writing retreat which encouraged applications from groups underrepresented in energy research. The Whole Systems Networking Fund which provides up to £60k to projects to address EDI related issues in the energy space. An EDI focused networking events.
