Tell us a little bit about you

My passion for the renewable sector stems from a love for the natural world and a desire to preserve it for future generations.

Understanding how people interact with their environments has always been central to my work—from my time as an HR Business Consultant to my placement as a Design Engineer. As a doctoral candidate, I aim to pave the way for industrial-scale systems through technoeconomic assessments while also exploring operational aspects of hydrogen production.

After completing my doctoral programme, I plan to focus on operations. I thrived as part of the operations team for the ‘Covid Megalab’ (Rosalind Franklin Laboratory), where the fast-paced, complex environment challenged and suited my skills perfectly. This experience reinforced my interest in roles that combine strategic impact with hands-on problem-solving, driving me to contribute meaningfully to sustainability and renewable energy advancements.

What is your area of research and what project(s) are you working on now?

My current list is
- My thesis project.
- Volunteering with StrathActive to promote healthy lifestyles with fellow deskbound workers.
- My role as an Associate Lecturer at my alma mater, Aston University.
- Becoming a Chartered Engineer with the IMECHE.

What do you think are the challenges for equity/equality, diversity and inclusion in the energy research community in reaching netzero targets by 2050?

I believe there are two key challenges:
- Access to Experience: More support should be given to grassroots initiatives to help people from different backgrounds gain experience. Addressing nepotism at the entry level is crucial.
- Changing Mindsets and Interactions: The sector places too much emphasis on technical skills over soft skills. Greater effort is needed to improve communication and conflict resolution, especially for neurodiverse individuals as both senders and receivers of information.
